Flower Piano’s 10th Anniversary

A Decade of Flower Piano : SF Botanical Garden, September 12 - 21 2025

In September of 2025, for the tenth time, Sunset Piano placed over a dozen perfectly tuned and maintained grand pianos in the San Francisco Botanical Garden for its biggest event of the year, Flower Piano ®. Flower Piano may be the world’s only interactive music festival. Over 100 individuals and ensembles, representing some of the best professional musicians in the bay area, shared the Garden’s 55 acres with everyday superstars who came to play, nestled in the glorious flora.

Here are a few highlights from this incredibly unique festival of music and nature:

The event kicked off in the Flower Piano Lounge on Friday, September 12, hosting the special 10th Anniversary Opening Night Event, featuring Montuno Swing Salsa Band with Grammy Award-Winning Pianist Christian Tumalan. Montuno Swing brings together infectious rhythm, thundering brass, and out-of-this-world piano solos for a new twist on classic Salsa favorites. There were lots more incredible bands playing the Flower Piano Lounge on the weekends, including Lavay Smith and the Red Hot Skillet Lickers, Dred Scott & Cali Mambo, Sixth Station Trio, Sumi Lee & Ramiro Boero, and more.

Ten days of Flower Piano came to a close at the Lounge on Sunday, September 21 with a special event featuring long-time Flower Piano star, Kev Choice, premiering his new Kev Choice Chamber Ensemble; hip-hop and classical fusion with a string section and an unbelievable band. All proceeds from the Lounge help fund Flower Piano and help ensure we will be able to keep this San Francisco tradition going.

Here are some more highlights:

  • San Francisco’s Golden Gate Symphony Orchestra premiered a new piece by composer Benjamin Gribble called Oleander, Elektra Schmidt, soloist, as well as Ravel’s Piano Concerto in G Major, Kymry Esainko, soloist, and George Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue, Allison Lovejoy, soloist. The full program will feature more than 100 performers, including solos, duos, and ensembles.

  • The second annual Flower Piano Fashion Show saw numerous local stars decked out in full regalia and ready to strut down the catwalk in their best Flower Piano themed outfit.

  • On each of the two Sundays, we hosted our Featured Artist Stage at Zellerbach Gardens. Some of the best music in town on a lush meadow with great sound! Featured Flower Piano artists included familiar favorites such as Tammy Hall, Serene, Diana Gameros, and lots of new artists and special performances.

  • Lunchtime concerts happened every weekday, Beat Corner hosted by Sunset Piano and your favorite North Beach poets, and SO much more!

Our thanks to our fabulous partners, the Gardens of Golden Gate Park, as well as the generous sponsors, staff, and volunteers that make Flower Piano possible.
Love, Dean and Mauro and the Sunset Piano Crew.
